Geography, Population, language and cultureRas al-Khaimah is one of the seven emirates of the United Arab Emirates and can be found about 100 Kilometers north-east from Dubai in the southern part of the Persian Gulf. It covers an area of about 1700 square kilometers or 656 square miles and is the northernmost emirate. Ras al-Khaimah is estimated to have a population of 250 000, of which at least 50% are Emiratis. The official language in Ras al-Khaimah is Arabic although English is widely used especially in business and politics. A significant portion of the population also speaks Hindu, Urdu, Bengali, and Persian. Ras al-Khaimah enjoys a varied landscape and a pleasant and relatively dry climate. It has a coastline stretching approximately 40 km and has many fertile plains and high mountains. All these factors contribute to the success of Ras al-Khaimah as a financial and business center.
